Artist Statement:
Migrating from colourful India in 1991 to a Melbourne winter, was a culture shock. Here all I saw was a sea of blacks and greys. In those earlier days I didn’t want to stand out and accepted the ways of my new home. This reflected in my work being subdued in muted, classic tones. Along this journey I found my own identity, and no longer wanted to follow the swarm, adding colour to my work inspired by my Indian heritage, from pastels to bright shades.
Colour is a huge part of who I am.
