Pillar of Passage | Nature is a Home Exhibiition

Artist Statement:

Leaving behind Mumbai’s dense energy for the vast natural beauty of Australia was a deeply transformative journey. While I cherish the vibrancy and cultural richness of my birthplace, living in the west of Naarm (Melbourne) has given me a grounding sense of belonging.

This work bridges the raw vitality of urban India, evoked through Warli art, with the stillness of the Australian landscape. Using clay, I explore layers, textures, and form to tell a story of migration, memory, and renewal. The totem stands as a personal monument—honouring resilience, transformation, and the creation of a new sense of home.

Medium: Wheel thrown and hand built ceramic vessels, enhanced by painting ceramic colours to showcase the Mumbai city skyline, the traditional village art of Warli paintings, and the Australian outback.
Other sections were carved and decorated with ceramic flowers.
Textured glazes were used to depict the bleaching of the barrier reef.
Totem is ceramic, wood, and metal.
