Artist Statement:
My mother was an eco-warrior before it was cool. She’d find new purpose for the smallest reusable materials – such as intricately cutting and braiding old plastic bags to make yarn. Inspired by her, this artwork is crafted from different recycled clay, and uses natural materials - twigs, leaves and dirt - to imprint.
Each piece represents the ponds of the treatment facility, seen from a bird’s-eye view; the plastic braids that link the ponds are from my mother’s collection of recycled plastic yarn. The ponds depict the thriving ecosystem of flora and fauna that are supported by the facility.
Medium: Ceramic - recycled clay, recycled plastic bags, recycled timber
Dimensions: Width: 50cms Depth: 70cms
Year made: 2022
