Artist Statement:
In my wearable ceramic garment, I aimed to celebrate India’s diversity by incorporating iconic designs from different corners of the country. The garment designs are inspired from, Phulkari embroidery patterns from the North, intricate Kanjeevaram motifs from the South, bold Pathani designs from the West, and the geometric elegance of Nagaland's tribal motifs from the Northeast. Together, these elements showcase the harmony of India’s enriching diversity.
My medium, ceramics, posed a unique challenge. Using ceramic tiles, I experimented with embossing, carving, colouring, and glazing to transform this rigid material into a wearable garment. It was both a bold step and an ambitious undertaking, pushing the boundaries of what ceramic art can achieve.
This creation tells a story of India—a land of vibrant contrasts where countless traditions coexist. The garment symbolises unity in diversity, demonstrating how unique cultural identities can come together to create something truly extraordinary.
Medium: Ceramic tiles that are embossed, carved, and painted with designs inspired by saris from different regions of India.
Year Created: 2025
